Consider Increasing City Sponsorship Funding for the TEDxManhattanBeach Event From $1,500 to $5,000 (City Manager Moe).
DISCUSS AND PROVIDE DIRECTION
Current funding was decided during Budget hearings in comparison with other projects. Such one-off revision belies the budget process and chills participation. Without commenting on value, any need seems met by private enterprise with no need for public support. Further, I seen no inc. stmt. or tax return review in respect to any need for funding or where the ultimate money goes, nor definite requirements by the city--just subjective anecdotes. Don't even see a Sec. of State reg. for the entity.
I support reinstatement of $5,000 for TEDX MB Community Event. For 10 years, our community has been inspired by regular people offering extraordinary ideas. Over 1000 people came to this community event in 2018. I watched older adults experience virtual reality for the first time. This inter-generational event invites seniors & students to see/listen to ideas that broaden their worlds. They can buy discounted tickets,too. MBUSD teachers are invited to attend for FREE. Give $5,000 to TedX MB.
