As a resident of Manhattan Beach, I strongly agree with Councilmember Stern that the city will benefit from a community forum with the Police Chief and other community leaders to ensure that our city services continue to support all residents of the city and the city budget reflects the needs of all members of our community. We need community based initiatives such as a Homelessness task force, mental health services, and learn how we can best support the Black community in our area.
Defunding the police is a non starter. This community meeting is nothing more than an attempt to defund the police. The panel will be loaded with progressive friends of Hildy Stern from South Bay Cares and Gen BLue.
I strongly oppose this political effort by Hildy Stern, who represents GenBlue and South bay cares and arm of the democratic party. This is nothing more than an attempt to defund the police.
I oppose Hildy Stern's proposed forum. This looks like an effort to undermine our police and divert funding from MBPD, which, in turn, would undermine public safety. If we do proceed with this forum, it should just be Chief Abell, his captain in charge of the field officers, City Council and perhaps City Mgr Bruce Moe on the dais. No local experts or hand-picked activists should be allowed on the dais to present a biased perspective in order to advance Stern's political agenda.
As a Manhattan Beach resident and voter since 1985, I oppose councilwoman Stern’s request/ idea to conduct a community forum. Manhattan Beach police has supported our community well and I would support Full Funding. As a Neighborhood Block Captain for many years, I have seen how caring and diligent our police are in time of need.

I think this issue is an issue for African Americans and find it insulting and racist that Caucasians think they can speak on this issue for African Americans. In Manhattan Beach the African Americans are extremely well educated and if they want the police defunded it should be lead by African Americans not Caucasians who think they can still SPEAK for African Americans. African Americans support strong and fair police departments.
We need to talk about reforms and defunding we can do when it comes to our police department. We need community based initiatives such as a Homelessness task force, mental health services, and learn how we can best support the Black community in our area. We cannot take the same "bubble" approach and bury our heads in the sand. Let's talk about the past history of KKK in Manhattan Beach and what ANTI racist action we want to take in addition to directing funds away from the police department.
I support Councilmember Stern's request to conduct a community forum with Chief Abbell. It would be beneficial to the MB community to have an open dialogue about policing in MB and the need to redirect funds away from police and towards community based initiatives. This is an opportunity for MB to become an even louder voice in the support of a better future for Black communities. LA City Council just had a formal hearing today on budget reforms, Manhattan Beach should too.
I think that a Community Forum would be helpful for me at this point. I want to better understand and question the relationship between the City Council's allocation of 30 million dollars to the Manhattan Beach Police Department and Black and Indigenous folks who have been historically assaulted by the police. As citizens of Manhattan Beach we live with a long history of anti-Black violence and displacement of Indigenous communities. Why don't we take some time to talk and learn about that?
I welcome Councilmember Stern’s request for a community forum with Chief Abell about police policies and practices. We can’t turn our back on the overwhelming support for change at all levels to protect black lives and create healthier communities. Manhattan Beach must be a part of the national conversation. Becoming informed and aware is imperative.
I’ve been a resident of Manhattan Beach since 1994. I support Councilmember Stern’s request to conduct a community forum. I would also like to support MBPD Chief Abell’s idea to have a forum with residents. Thank you
As a resident of Manhattan Beach for 40+ years, I strongly agree with Councilmember Stern that the city will benefit from a community forum with the Police Chief and other community leaders to ensure that our city services continue to support all residents of the city.
I attended a Redondo Beach community form hosted by councilman Christian Horvath, it included R.B police chief,
A local mental health professional, an 3 RB citizens of color. Each panelist made a short presentation and then took residents questions. I learned a lot about RB. Can we please do this for our own community?
Thank you, Laura Dotson

The request to conduct a community forum is protected by the first amendment to the constitution of the United States. Why oppose it?
