I support my City Councilwomen, Suzanne Hadley, and disavow all baseless accusations in today’s “cancel culture,” solely aimed to silent different point of views. I oppose anyone using the Bruce family to advance their own political agendas.
I have respect all Council members and respect their right to express personal opinions when questioned. I find none of the present negative feedback presently circulating about an old tweet by Suzanne Hadley justified. We all know that Drinking the Kool Aide is a common political term referencing that if you agreed with what Obama was advocating you were drinking the Kool Aide. Same term used regularly today. You can attempt to dig for racism anywhere, but labeling it so doesn't make it so.
In the era of COVID-19, Black Lives Matter, and rising concerns of implicit racism and bias in Manhattan Beach, we need leadership that cares for the safety and well-being of all people. Through her actions and words, Suzanne Hadley has displayed that she is not fit to be Mayor of Manhattan Beach in December. I have over 500 signatures on a petition calling for her resignation or removal.read the full argument here: https://www.change.org/p/suzanne-hadley-mayor-pro-tem-suzanne-hadley-must-resign
I support my City Councilwomen, Suzanne Hadley, and disavow all baseless accusations in today’s “cancel culture,” solely aimed to silent different point of views. I oppose anyone using the Bruce family to advance their own political agendas. If the Bruce family feels they have a case, they can sue the City. I know of someone whom signed the petition to pay the Bruces $100 million but only donated $5 for the yard sign to support our local First Responders. So there you have it, OPMat its finest!
I oppose any discussion of Bruce's Beach without full disclosure and attendance by the residents in MB. The discussion needs to lay out all the fact not felling, lawsuit in 1924 (City of MB vs. B.H. Dyer, et al.) and demonstrating they did not receive fair compensation under eminent domain . We have laws and contracts If we begin to go back in history and base everything on wants and desires and ignore contracts and court cases, this will never end.
I oppose any discussion of Bruce's Beach without full disclosure and attendance by residents in MB. The discussion needs to include the lawsuit (City of MB vs. B.H. Dyer). We have laws and contracts, we can not use a 2020 lens to decide on 1920 actions. If we begin to go back in history and base everything on wants and desires and ignore contracts and court cases, this will never end. We should base decisions on facts and not feelings. You know I might feel like taking your property one day.
When you get to discussing what MB should do in the matter of Bruce's Beach, I would support action returning the property to the Bruce family heirs. This support is based on some assumptions:
1. Most likely, the eminent domain action taken on the the Bruce's was not on the up and up and the purpose of the action was racist in origin.
2. The cost of restitution would be minimal since the land is not generating revenue for the city, nor otherwise being of other great use
I oppose any discussion of Bruce's Beach without full disclosure and attendance by the residents in MB. The discussion needs to include the lawsuit in 1924 (City of MB vs. B.H. Dyer, et al.). Right in this country we have laws and contracts, we can not use a 2020 lens to decide on 1920 actions. All we have is the court case. If we begin to go back in history and base everything on wants and desires and ignore contracts and court cases, this will never end.
The only mistake Suzanne Hadley made with her recent MSNBC was failing to have someone record her comments separately from the news crew. Then she would be able to prove they took her comments out of context to fit their narrative- as news sources across the political spectrum do. Our city council is continuously talking about having conversations on all subjects from all views. Objecting to opposing views belies this goal. I fully support any city council member to express their views.
I support Suzanne Hadley as one of the very few rational, guiding lights on City Council, I oppose the dangerous suggestion of defunding MBPD (particularly given the rapidly rising crime rate in LA County, including rising rates of vehicle and property crime here in MB) and I oppose any reparations or restitution for Bruces Beach which was legally purchased under the constitutional process of eminent domain; if the Bruces feel they have a claim 100 years after the fact, they have the courts.
Suzanne Hadley won a resounding majority of votes in the March 2019 election and is held in high regard by her supporters for her solid record on the City Council. Everyday more and more Manhattan Beach residents, including me, are proudly displaying signs expressing their gratitude for our MBPD and MBFD. Suzanne Hadley ran on a platform of "law and order" so I stand by her today.
Please consider changing the plaque at Bruce’s Beach to recognize the more accurate history of what occurred with that land. It’s important for the truth about racism and its effects on land ownership and generational wealth to be part of all citizens’ knowledge base. I’m not sure about how reparations work, but I encourage City Council to meet the Bruce family to discuss reparations of some sort, as it appears likely that eminent domain was used disingenuously to seize Bruce’s Beach.
I am a medical professional providing care for patients at a local hospital in the South Bay. I am disappointed and disheartened to hear Suzanne Hadley (for whom I voted) being quoted on the news stating that she doesn't think COVID-19 is anything to worry about because she doesn't know anyone who has died from it. As the number of cases and hospitalizations surge, I am embarrassed to have a leader of our community make such statements. Stay safe and be well! Wear a mask and physically distance!
We deserve leadership who will address racial violence in our community and the current pandemic. I call upon city council to meet with the Bruce Family & Anti-Racist Movements around the South Bay to discuss restoration & restitution. Suzanne Hadley's comment, "I don't know anyone who has died from COVID-19", is EXTREMELY disrespectful. My mom & other frontline workers care for people who are dying from Covid-19 at local hospitals. We cannot make a joke of this deadly virus. Lives are at stake.
I am in support of Suzanne Hadley. Her views represent the views of many homeowners in our city and she should not be silenced. Please remember that she received many votes when elected and that she is held in high regard by our community. Thank you.
Hadley shouldn’t be penalized in any way for the known liberal media editing her comments to create some drama. We have other council members who have been intentionally dramatic and negatively stirred the pot multiple times with their politically motivated ideology, and no one ever seems to Care.I prefer Politicians like Hadley that don’t sugar coat or go with the mainstream narratives just to appease the sheep, even if I Weren’t to always agree with the content. Character matters.
Tongues are wagging on social media...some folks would like to see Suzanne Hadley resign because they disapprove of cherry-picked comments from an MSNBC interview and her position regarding the recent Forum. If anyone is seriously thinking about moving forward with this, I urge you to reconsider. Hadley's views may run counter to ever-increasingly-oppressive "political correctness" but they do, in fact, resonate with many in our community. Cancel the cancel culture. Hadley should stay.
