I want to urge our City Council to work with the MBUSD to issue a public statement setting the record straight on the books issue. Many people are spreading wrong information in their public statements. A few folks erroneously said that these books are in the school's library. They are NOT. A couple people have erroneously said that the schools want to shove this down the kids throats to read. They are NOT. A couple people have said that teachers are assigning these books. They are NOT. And it is completely offensive that these people make lies part of their core arguments. It is also mind boggling that these people want to prepare their kids for the future, but want schools to ignore the necessary cultural competence and cultural intelligence that everybody needs. In any case, I'm offended that there is misinformation being spread. City Council, issue a factual statement about this book list to set the record straight on these nuances so we stop this nonsense.
