Given these are all projects that a Chamber of Commerce would likely fund on their own absent City largesse, and none which the City would likely fund without existence of the chamber, I view this is an inappropriate funding. Further, such subsidy allows publication of the MB Pier Review Community Newspaper, which not only directs advertising money away from necessary community publications such as TBR and ER, but I find it a complete waste of natural resources without significant informational value.
The financial report is comprehensive and complete. However, I do have the following questions:
1) The total net position ended at $245,313,678 at the end of 2023. Is this good, bad, or just right? What is the target net position the City wants to have and what is the logic for that target?
2) How does our total net position compare to other cities in our district?
3) There was a net loss of $28,403,578 in 2023. Is there a trend here that we should be concerned about? What is the forecast for 2024?
