Hello, and thank you to the City Council, staff, and residents of Manhattan Beach. I'm Brandee Keith with the South Coast AQMD. As summer gets underway, I'd like to share with you a couple of important updates from our agency.

Our local AQI (Air Quality Index) is calculated based on common air pollutants including particulate matter, smog, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide. You can always check your real-time air quality on our website at www.aqmd.gov, at the bottom of the home page. Check out today’s forecast, or tomorrow’s, too. You can also sign up for alerts to receive notifications when air quality changes.

Wildfire season is here. You should know that fires can cause very high air pollution levels harmful to your health, even in areas many miles away. Older adults, young children, and people with heart or lung diseases may be especially sensitive to health risks from wildfire smoke.
