1. 25-0472 Consideration of Approval of a City Parking Management Strategies and Toolkit Report, as Recommended by the Parking and Public Improvements Commission (Unbudgeted) (Community Development Director Alkire).
(Estimated Time: 3 Hr.)
DISCUSS AND PROVIDE DIRECTION
Support: Increase supply in parking garages and lots by reconstructing existing parking garages and parking lots.
On-Demand Microtransit. Remote Parking and Shuttle Transportation for special events and busy summers days
Oppose: docked electric bicycle-share program. Rationale: Most people in MB have bikes, so who would these bikes serve? How would they be used? To ride around DT, which is walkable?
Define: Parking Benefits Districts, this needs to be explained not explained in legislative text.
Note: realistically MB can not supply DT parking to everyone, there needs to be a realistic plan mass transit, shuttle service

That sounds like such a memorable Fourth of July celebration! I really enjoyed reading about your experience and how you captured those fireworks moments. If you ever get curious about local updates or detailed insights into North Carolina data, you can find some useful information at https://arrests-nc.org/. It’s great for anyone interested in tracking state-level information and recent reports.
I strongly support expanding e-bike share over pedal bikes if we actually want people to use it. Non-powered shared bikes are far too heavy, especially on hills. As someone who gets around entirely by bike and transit, I believe most e-bike concerns stem from poor infrastructure. Real, protected bike lanes, not paint or sharrows, would solve most safety issues by separating riders from cars.
MB’s bike network feels like an afterthought. On 8th St. at Sepulveda, lights won’t change unless a car triggers the sensor, forcing cyclists onto sidewalks. The same happens at Prospect/Artesia and Cedar/MB Village crossings.
It’s absurd that our best beach real estate near the pier is dominated by parking lots, and that no transit connects East MB to downtown. MB should be leading on sustainable mobility, not resisting it. Few residents know the 232 or 109 bus goes to Hermosa or Riviera Village for under $2. With perfect weather year-round, it’s a shame we still prioritize parking.
