I believe our AIPP funds are best served by providing for tangible, lasting art pieces. Even though tangible pieces are subjective (see, e.g., the shark mural), the expansive list of proposed funded events like putting on plays are even more subjective. I can easily see a lot of this funding crowding out, or needless competing against, the origin impetus for creating this fund, which is tangible art pieces. Much of the "new" items are transitory and easily forgotten--money wasted. I would like to see more "Light Gates" and those types of installations that Steve Napolitano once visioned as allowing MB to become a "Florence of the South Bay." We still have a lot of locations for free-standing installations. And, yes, I am even down for visionary or whimsical "Man-Hat-Tan" art.
