Thank you for considering traffic safety measures for 2nd Street in East Manhattan Beach. I've lived here almost 5 years, and as a parent of small children who can't safely bike, walk, or play near the road at current speeds, I fully support the calming measures, with two additions:
Please install additional speed cushions and humps, not just signage. Cars regularly speed well above safe limits, and physical measures work far better than signs at slowing drivers down. I'd ask the Commission to prioritize sections with the highest foot traffic and blind driveways.
The restriction on turning from Aviation at Robinson onto 2nd Street is widely ignored, especially by commercial trucks and cars using our block as a through-route. This adds safety risk and accelerates wear on a street not built for that traffic. I'd ask the City to pursue targeted enforcement or physical barriers.

First, the collision data undercounts the problem. My family alone has had one car totaled, one hit-and-run causing nearly $5,000 in damage, and two side mirrors struck by passing vehicles in the past five years. None are reflected in the reported data, and many neighbors have experienced similar incidents.
Second, the downhill eastbound stretch from Redondo to Aviation encourages excessive speeds. Please consider an additional stop sign or speed humps.
Third, drivers routinely ignore the prohibition on crossing Aviation from Robinson into 2nd Street. With little enforcement, I urge the City to consider a physical barrier to prevent illegal cut-through traffic.
